Lake Macatawa
Fall inlove withLake Macatawa
Lake Macatawa is a small inland lake fed by the Macatawa River connected to Lake Michigan by a navigation channel. The lake is located partially in Park Township and partially in the City of Holland. Lake Macatawa is a great spot for boating and fishing as well as other water sports. The eastern end of the lake is surrounded by industrial development, while the rest of the lake is lined by high income residential areas. Lake Mac is approximately 6 miles long and is 1.2 miles across at its widest point. The lake averages about 10 feet deep, though the navigation channel is much deeper at 50 ft to allow draft ships to reach the City of Holland dock. There are numerous boat launches and parks as well as marinas, yacht clubs, and restaurants around Lake Macatawa allowing lots of family fun. Heinz pickle factory recently donated money for a new boardwalk stretching 1000+ feet along Lake Mac from Kollen Park on Holland’s south side to 16th street. Along with the beautiful new walk came a boat launch and larger parking lot (project completed October 2008). On the north side of Holland off of Ottawa Beach Rd. is a well-kept local secret; Mount Pisgah. A beautiful dune with a new boardwalk and steps leading 157 above Lake Michigan and Lake Mac provides breathtaking views of Big Red and both lakes.
